May is officially “Tick Awareness Month” in the UK. We should all be more aware of ticks, but “Tick Awareness Month” is actually a marketing campaign by a pharmaceutical company which is concerned with killing them. At NatureSpot, our interests are rather different. More… 

Ticks (related to mites and spiders) have had a very bad press in recent years, being associated with transmission of Lyme Disease. In fact, only a very small proportion of ticks carry the disease, but it’s a good idea for anyone venturing off their sofa and into the outdoors to take sensible precautions. We get very few records of ticks submitted to NatureSpot because they are very difficult to identify, but it would be good to know more about the ticks in the county, so please send us your records of any ticks you find. Or indeed, any ticks that find you.
