The leaf mine caused by the larva is more commonly seen than the adult fly.The mine is a very long, white, upper surface gallery which follows the veins and can appear angular because of this.

Summer and autumn.
Larva mines the leaves of various Burdock species.
It is difficult to determine its status in Britain as there is a lack of records, but probably fairly frequent and widespread.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
