Trentepohlia abietina is an alga that forms bright orange or orange-brown patches on tree trunks. Appears orange in colour due to masking of the green chlorophyll by a carotenoid pigment.
All year round.
Most often found in the humid northerly and westerly parts of the British Isles.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
