Getting There

Excellent connections from either Hinckley Railway station immediately to the north- west of the site and easy close by walk over footbridge from platform.  Footpath access from the north either off Parsons Lane or connecting footpath off Brookside Road. To the south west of the site off Bridge Road is a large parking area with direct access to the raised public footpath across the Flood Retention area.

Description

Mixed habitat including some 4 hectares of deciduous woodland with areas of open grassland leading onto  approximately 1 hectare of the Flood Retention area to the west. Sketchley Brook flows along the full southern length of the site plus an additional inflow from the north feeding the permanent wetland, sloping from north to south.

Wildlife Highlights

Flood retention area has many typical wet land plants including numerous sp. Rush, Reedmace, Yellow Iris and Ragged Robin. The permanent standing water areas support various amphibians and attract numerous Birds & Bats. Including Reed Bunting, Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff.  The close by wooded area offering ideal nesting and roosting habitat.
