Description

This is a small mixed wood planted in the 1890’s for bird shoots and the like. Despite the surrounding recently erected commercial factory/warehouse units this wood has remained unchanged and largely un-managed since the 1970’s.

The canopy is dominated by Horse Chestnut and Ash along with Beech, Sycamore and Scots Pine, plus occasional Oak and Norway Maple. The understorey includes Hazel, Holly, Elm and Elder. The ground flora is not particularly varied but includes large populations of Bluebells and Dog's Mercury plus Garlic Mustard, Red Campion, Enchanter's Nightshade and Lesser Celandine. There are decent amounts of dead wood, both standing and fallen.

Vandalism and fly-tipping/littering are a problem, particularly in the southern portion of the wood.
