Empingham Grantham Lane North Road Verge

Grantham Lane exits direcly off the A1 and connects to Empingham village. The site begins just after Empingham Bloody Oaks wood, and continues down to the Empingham Lane crossroads.
Parking may be possible by Bloody Oaks or along the verge, but please be mindful of traffic and private land. Some roadside parking is available in Empingham village, but be aware that the walk is 30 minutes or more.

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2011, Grantham Lane North verge includes both sides of the road, with the eastern side being 1324 metres long and the western side being 1310 metres long. The main habitats are calcareous grassland and mixed grassland. The verge is approximately 1 metre wide on the eastern side and 2 metres wide on the western side.
Recorded species include: Agrimony, Greater Knapweed, Field Scabious, Restharrow, Hoary Plantain, Small Scabious, Black Knapweed, Pignut, Lady’s Bedstraw, Meadow Vetchling, and Common Bird’s-foot Trefoil.
