Length 4 to 4.5 mm. On the vertex, the middle dark marking on each side is missing and the forewings have dark grey-brown patches.
This species can be identified from good quality photographs with care but there are similar species that it could be confused with.
Usually found in woodland. Prefers nettles but may also feed on other plants.
Adult: May to October.
Widely but sparsely distributed in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
