Black Walnut - Juglans nigra


    Similar to the Common Walnut but the leaflets are finer and toothed and the drupe containing the ‘walnut’ is spherical.

    Usually found as a planted tree in parks etc.

    Flowers April to May.

    Little recorded in Britain with most records coming from southern England.

    VC55 Status

    Rare or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
