Peatlands of Borneo: Conservation Challenges and Opportunities

Woodhouse Eaves Village Hall, 50 Main St, Woodhouse Eaves, Loughborough LE12 8RZ

Dr Sara Thornton is an interdisciplinary conservation researcher with a focus on the tropical peat-swamp forests of Indonesian Borneo. She will draw on her personal experiences as a field researcher in Indonesia to discuss tropical peatlands and the challenges that these vital habitats face: from increasing human populations, devastating yearly fires, to oil palm monocultures. While the challenges are aplenty, there is still an opportunity to restore and conserve peatlands, and the final part of this talk will bring focus to the actions being taken to conserve these habitats worldwide.

Admission £2.50 for members, £3 for non-members, refreshments included.
