Hygrotus versicolor


    A small (3 to 3.5 mm) straw coloured water beetle with markings resembling thick, black longitudinal dashes which make it fairly distinctive.

    Identification difficulty

    Ponds and sometimes canals.

    When to see it

    Can be seen all year round but mainly from April to September.

    UK Status

    Widespread and fairly frequent in the southern half of Britain, less common further north.

    VC55 Status

    Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 58 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
