Vertagopus cinereus

Description

Greyish-brown species that reaches a length of 1.5 mm.  It is similar to other members of this family and detailed examination is necessary.

Similar Species

Vertagopus arboreus has blue iridescence and a longer furca.

Habitat

Vertagopus spp. are typical members of canopy Collembola communities. Almost all records are from the trunks of trees, under dead bark and lichens, and in bird nests.

When to see it

Thought to be all year round.

Widespread in Britain, but not well recorded.
