Thunberg's Barberry - Berberis thunbergii
Leaves are entire, not toothed and spines are simple. Flowers are yellow.
Waste ground and scrub areas. Often found as an escape from cultivation and near to habitation.
Flowers in late spring.
Deciduous shrub.
Widespread but scattered records in Britain – mostly from the west and north.
Little recorded in the wild in Leicestershire and Rutland – the first record for our area was in 1995. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
