Cladonia glauca


    A greyish, slender, commonly unbranched lichen, tapered to a point, usually with a longitudinal fissure that may be hidden by soredia, apothecia brown, rare.  Easily confused with similar species if critical features are not checked.

    Identification difficulty

    On acid, rotting wood, heaths and drying peat surfaces.

    When to see it

    All year round.

    Widespread but local in Britain.
