    Linyphia triangularis

Can you spot 10 spider species before Halloween? More...

It's peak spider season, as you'll know by walking down your garden and getting a Garden Spider web in the face, or when those randy male House Spiders invade your living room in the evenings looking for love. With about 670 British species, identifying spiders isn't the simplest thing, but it gets easier when you know the tricks - in the case of Linyphia triangularis (above), the black "tuning fork" marking on the carapace. At NatureSpot we get lots of records for a very small number of spider species, particularly Garden Spiders, but spiders remain one of the most under-recorded groups and we really don't have a good idea of how many species there are in Leicestershire and Rutland. And yet spiders are everywhere and this is your chance to help. Can you submit records of 10 spider species before Halloween? Go on, we dare you!
