The Year of the Ivy Bee

When the history of 2018 is written it will go down as The Year of the Ivy Bee in Leicestershire & Rutland More...

We knew it was coming, and in the past couple of months we have gone from zero to over a dozen verified records of the Ivy Bee, Colletes hederae, all across the County. Presumably, these bees enjoyed the hot summer of 2018 and that has helped their inexorable northwards progress. Although it has gone cold now the flight period of this species extends well into November, so please keep your eyes open and send us your records.
