    Pogonognathellus longicornis

Many people struggle with scientific names but we have the answer! More...

Formal scientific names for organisms can be tricky but they are essential to avoid confusion so we know which species we are taking about. My favourite Latin name is Pogonognathellus longicornis - it's easy when you know how! Apart from pronouncing them, the other problem is remembering them, and for this, we have a solution. It's generally much easier to remember Latin names if you know what they mean, and for that you need the new Field Studies Council Nomenclature Glossary for Invertebrates - https://www.fscbiodiversity.uk/?q=invert-glossary

apis - bee, mel - honey, Apis mellifera - European Honeybee

bi - two, punctata - spotted, Adalia bipunctata - Two-spotted ladybird

    Simples!
