We have some exciting news coming soon about our Wild Places listings - More...

We currently have over 160 Wild Places listed on NatureSpot - the best places to see wildlife in Leicestershire and Rutland. Some of these are fairly obvious, such as the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust nature reserves, other are tiny pockets and urban oases you may not of heard of. We have some exciting news coming soon about our Wild Places listings - but you'll have to wait just a little while longer until we can share that with you. In the meantime, the NatureSpot team has been looking at our current listings with some interesting results. You may be able to guess what the most popular (best recorded) sites are:

    Wild Places

What is not immediately obvious are some sites with large numbers of records are from dedicated recorders closely observing what's going on on their local patch - County Hall, Glenfield is an example of this. We also have a few sites with less than ten records, a number which clearly does not reflect their wildlife potential:

    • Clanfelde Hills
    • Franklin Park
    • Franklin Park Community Orchard
    • Merry Lees
    • Newton Harcourt Canal, Wistow
    • Optimus Greenway
    • Osgathorpe Jubilee Wood
    • Peartree Copse
    • Prestwold Natural Burial Ground
    • Roman Way
    • Stafford Orchard
    • Station Park, Glenfield
    • Winstanley Rough

So whether you like your nature in the crowded honeypots or prefer the peace and quiet of a little more isolation, we hope that the Wild Places listings help you enjoy the wildlife in our county.
