We grow Scabious species for autumn nectar. A really good one is Scabiosa ochroleuca. It has white flowers and is easy in a sunny spot. Butterflies and hoverflies really like it. It is a modest clump of quite low foliage until flowering in a great white outburst of growth approx 75cm tall.
A post like that needs a list of the species you've seen on it! :-)
