Hi, this ladybird was photographed yesterday in Ayrshire on the side of a flip flop by a friend. I'm certain it's a kidney spot but there are no records for them in this region or the nieghbouring regions according to the NBN atlas. Can anyone confirm the species please. Hoping it's not just a harlequin as there appears to be no white visible on what can be seen of the face.

Yes, that's definitely a Kidney-Spot Ladybird. In addition to the lack of white markings you mention it has a slightly rounder shape than a Harlequin and you can also see the flange around the edge of the elytra (wing-cases).

If you record it via iRecord it will reach the UK Ladybird Survey. I'm sure they'd appreciate the record.
