I discovered this spider beneath wood at Thurnby Lodge Nature Area. Is Pirate Wolf Spider (Pirata piraticus) accurate?
Best wishes, Saharima
It's one of the Pirate Wolf Spiders but these cannot be identified from habitus photos, they require microscopic examination for confirmation. That's why they have a red camera icon on the species page.
Thank you for your reply Alan. Does microscopic examination of the Pirate Wolf spider involve sacrificing the spider?
it depends how co-operative the spider is.
A Pirate Wolf spider doesn't sound very co-operative to me.
