Managed some snatched photos of this critter yesterday at Battrams Wood - as it flew off! I think it may be a 'Blood-bee', but I see they are difficult to identify to species level, could anyone advise if this is possible from these photos, please?  Many thanks,

Having photographed Sphecodes sp. (Blood Bees) over the past 5 years and asked the same question, the answer is always that you need microscopic images to determine the exact species. You could try BWARS and ask them what is exactly needed to get the respective species through photo's.
