I'm an utter novice when it comes to bees and wasps - but there were several of these crawling over a decaying tree at Battrams yesterday.  Would anyone be able to tell me if this is a species of Ectemnius, please?  Again, I know these are difficult to speciate, so I was wondering if this can be done from these photos by any chance?  Many thanks,

With Ectemnius sp. you will have to get very detailed images of the underside of them to get any positive identifications. Again try asking BWARS and see what they say is needed to split the different species. I also have photographed these and they are all confirmed to Ectemnius sp. only.

Cripes, I wonder how you take photos of the underside!  I guess you have to catch and kill them, so I'll leave it at the generic level then, Andy, but very many thanks for the info - and strangely enough I've just joined the BWARS FB group before seeing your message...
