Richard Iliffe, Chairman of the Leicestershire Fungus Study group, writes:
The mycological community has lost a significant figure with the death of Tom Hering on 16th March after a short illness. He acted as Leicestershire County Recorder for thirty-five years and was highly regarded, both for his mycological skills and for his easy-going friendly nature. He was a natural teacher and was at his happiest when helping complete beginners to enjoy the fungi of our Leicestershire woodlands. He will be sorely missed.
