Weather-wise, March 2024 has been a challenging month for recording many different groups. However, a few warmer sunny days felt truly like spring. On the first of these, March 17th, Brimstone Butterflies, Gonepteryx rhamni, emerged en mass across the County. This is one of the few species that hibernates as an adult and, as such, spends the majority of its life as an adult butterfly. Warm spring days allow it to take to the wing. the start of April is not looking like butterfly weather, but at least we know spring is waiting in the wings.
