The NatureSpot Photo of the Month for August is this image of Privet Hawk-moth larva, Sphinx ligustri, taken by NatureSpot contributor Dylan. More...
Hawk moths are spectacular both as adults and as larvae. Although 2024 has been a poor year for moths the last few weeks have seen a flush of Elephant Hawk-moth larvae. Larvae of other species have been fewer in number so this photo of a Privet Hawk-moth larva, Sphinx ligustri, is noteworthy. Keep your eyes open for these chunky beauties over the next few weeks before they pupate over winter.
