Brachypterus glaber


    A very small, blackish beetle (about 2 mm).

    Similar Species

    Brachypterus urticae is equally common and very similar but has pale legs.

    Identification difficulty

    Found on Common Nettle, especially when flowering. It may also turn up occasionally on umbel flowers.

    When to see it

    May to August.

    UK Status

    Widespread and frequent in England and Wales.

    VC55 Status

    Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 39 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
