Clouded Border - Lomaspilis marginata


    Wingspan 30-38 mm. A delicate little moth. The black and white markings show considerable variation.

    Identification difficulty

    Woodland and moist localities.

    When to see it

    Flies between May and July. It can be disturbed from undergrowth during the day, but its natural flight time is at night.

    Life History

    The larvae feed on Willows and Poplars, especially Aspen.

    UK Status

    It is fairly commonly distributed over most of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

    Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
