Curly Waterweed - Lagarosiphon major
Submerged aquatic plant with elongated stems forming entangled masses. Leaves linear, alternate, spreading and recurved, crowded towards the shoot tips, minutely toothed. Flowers pinkish, 3 to 4 mm.
Lakes and canals.
Flowers July and August.
Aquatic.
Widespread in the southern half of Britain.
First recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland in 1999 and now spreading. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
