Dolerus madidus


    Length 9 to 11 mm. A sawfly with a largely orange but black-tipped abdomen. It also conspicuously hairy.

    Identification difficulty

    Damp areas where Juncus species are present.

    When to see it

    Mainly March to June.

    Associated with Juncus species.

    Widespread but rather local in Britain.
