Dolichopus trivialis


    A fly of about 4 or 5 mm length – it has a bottle green/ sea green abdomen and thorax with rather yellow or orangey legs.

    Identification difficulty

    Grassland, gardens and post industrial sites.

    When to see it

    May to August.

    Life History

    Feeds on midges and other small insects.

    UK Status

    Fairly widespread in Britain. The majority of records seem to come from Wales and the west of England.
