Donacia simplex


    A medium sized (7 or 8 mm) metallic brown beetle. Elytral apices are truncate, c.f. slightly sinuate or wavy in D. vulgaris.

    Identification difficulty

    On the edges of pools and canals where it can be found on emergent and marginal vegetation. It is particularly associated with Bur-reed.

    When to see it

    April to August.

    UK Status

    Widespread and fairly frequent in most of Britain, although less frequently recorded in Scotland.

    VC55 Status

    Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 46 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
