Description

A small (4 to 5mm), bronze black burrowing ground beetle.

Habitat

Prefers sandy places often on the coast.

When to see it

Usually seen between spring and autumn.

Life History

It is predatory on rove beetles of the genus Bledius.

UK Status

Widespread but quite local in Britain.

VC55 Status

Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were only 4 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
