This species has characteristic dark chequer markings on its wings. It has the 'neck' that is typical of barkflies.
Found on very wide range of trees, shrubs and other microhabitats.
All year round but scarce in winter.
Common and widespread in Britain.
Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
