Grey Pine Carpet - Thera obeliscata
Wingspan 28-36 mm. This species shows rather more variation than the similar Pine Carpet as its patterning can be any of a mixture of colours from greyish brown to a richer russet colour.

Coniferous woodland, parkland and gardens.
There are two generations with moths flying from May to July and again in September and October.
The larvae feed mainly on Pine and Spruce but sometimes on other conifers.
Fairly common and widespread throughout Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.
Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
