The adults emerge in September and October, and overwinter, appearing again from February to April.
Life History
The caterpillars, like several other Lithophane species, have a tendency towards cannibalism. The foodplant is Oak.
UK Status
Found mainly in the southern part of England, Wales and Ireland. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.
VC55 Status
Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
