Hypera pollux


    This is a large pale buff-brown, slightly spotted species - but there is a second colour form having longitudinal dark and light stripes which is much easier to identify.

    Identification difficulty

    Found both inland in grassy areas where it is associated with Umbelliferous flowers near water, and also in coastal marshes.

    When to see it

    Spring and summer.

    UK Status

    Widespread in England and Wale.

    VC55 Status

    Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland not known. There were only 5 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
