Adult weevils are oval shaped, 5 to 10mm long. Wing covers are slightly pock-marked with greyish-white tufts of hair. Their rostrum is long and narrow.
This is a rarely recorded species in VC55 so a photo is required supporting any record. If possible the specimen should be retained unless confirmation is required.
Scrub and waste areas where thistles occur.
Most likely to be encountered during the summer months.
It feeds primarily on the floral buds of various thistles, with the larvae stage being the most destructive to them.
Mainly recorded in south-west England and in Wales.
Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
