The rust fungus Melampsora caprearum can affect the leaves of certain willow species (Salix caprea, S. cinerea, S. atro-cinerea and S. aurita). The leaf blade or veins become distorted with irregular thickened spots bearing orange-yellow urediniea of the rust.
