Microbotryum stellariae is a gall causing fungus. Flower anthers of affected plants become thickened and contain a powdery purple mass of spores when mature.
The fungus affects the flowers of some plants in the chickweed and stitchwort families.
When the host plants are in flower.
Not well recorded, but probably widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
