Thallus generally rather thin, pale to dark orange brown with a black marginal prothallus, usually speckled with orange yellow.
Forms mosaics on sheltered surfaces of base poor rocks.
All year round.
Widespread and locally frequent, mainly in the north and west.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
