Parrot Waxcap - Hygrocybe psittacina
Cap 2 to 4 cm. Initially green, the bell-shaped cap expands and turns yellow, sometimes with an orange tinge and often having a very slimy surface . The thick, waxy gills are distant and only partly attached to the stalk (stipe). The stipe is also yellow tinged green near to the cap. Spore print white. Spores ellipsoidal to ovoid, smooth, 7.5-9.5 x 4-6µm, with a large apical pore.
Roadside verges, cropped grassland and woodland clearings.
August to November.
Fairly frequent and widespread in Britain.
Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
