Upper surface olive green to brown or blue-grey, much darker when dry, smooth, slightly lustrous; lower surface brownish white, with ochre veins and pale, unbranched (though often frayed).
On tree-bases, rocks and in heathy turf
Widespread in Britain common in the North and West.
