A resupinate lichen-like species that can be easily overlooked. The irregular patches formed are grey sometimes with a violaceous tint and are usually extensive on the host branches. The surface is slightly warted and the edges well defined.
On dead twigs and branches of deciduous trees.
All year round.
Widespread and fairly frequent in England and Wales.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
