Peplomyza litura

    Description

    Length 5 mm. A handsome little fly of an overall orangey brown appearance, but with striped thorax, banded eyes and large dark shaded areas on the wings.

    Habitat

    Hedgerows and woodland edge often seen on tree trunks.

    When to see it

    Mainly June to October but has been recorded in most months.

    UK Status

    Fairly frequent and widespread throughout much of England and Wales.

    VC55 Status

    Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
