Phaonia valida


    A pale brownish fly with orangey yellow legs, but similar to other species. The wing veins are a useful guide to identification. Fourth wing vein almost straight. Strong bristle on dorsal side of hind tibia.

    Found in various habitats.

    When to see it

    Can be seen April to November basking on tree trunks etc.

    Breeds in leaf litter.

    Common and widespread in much of Britain.
