Plums and Custard - Tricholomopsis rutilans


    Cap diameter 3 to 15 cm.  The cap surface has a distinctive red-purple colour, freckled over a yellowish background.  The gills and stem are bright yellow. 

    Identification difficulty

    On conifer stumps, mainly pine.

    July to October

    Fairly frequent in suitable habitat and widespread throughout Britain.

    Fairly common but restricted to conifer or mixed woodlands.
