Rhizocarpon geographicum


    A distinctive, but variable, yellow-green to bright yellow crust forming lichen, that cracks into angular sections and has flat, black apothecia.

    On exposed, base poor rocks.

    Widespread and fairly frequent, especially in the north and west.

    VC55 Status

    Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
