This is one of several very similar small water bugs. It has a pattern resembling a gold coloured wave effect on the elytra.
Usually in and around water, but flies well and may be attracted to lights.
All year round, but most likely to be encountered between April and October.
Common and widespread in Britain.
Frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
