Although a 'blackfly' this is a rather brown looking species and is about 3 or 4 mm in body length.
Favours small streams.
It is multivoltine (produces several broods in one year) and so has quite a long flight period.
The eggs, larvae and pupae are found in moving water.
Poorly recorded in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
