Description
Length about 8 mm. A blackish, slender bodied wasp.

Habitat
Various habitats, often in well vegetated areas.
When to see it
Summer and autumn.
Life History
Nests are located in hollow plant stems such as bramble, reeds etc., and are provisioned with dead spiders. This species will attempt to enter and usurp the nest of other aculeates of all species.
UK Status
Fairly widespread in Britain, but more frequent in the southern parts.
VC55 Status
Thought to be fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
